This is probably one of the worst Billie Holiday films I've seen. I had hoped this would focus on her genius in the words of those who worked with her and knew her best. Instead it, like others before it, once again reduces Billie to her sexual exploits and her addiction, making her the sumtotal of the men who used her and the drugs she used. She was an innovator and a brilliant vocalist, but we see more of the lowlifes in her life than the giftedness and courage that makes her important. Beyond this, it was difficult to see the point to this film. It seemed to want to be as much about the journalist penning her biography as the jandiced version of Billie's life it depicted. A woman is far more than the individuals she beds or weds. This film was immensely disappointing. Money NOT well spent in renting this.
