I love this movie. I've loved it since I was a teenager and it first showed on the big screen. This movie has so many implications that are so easily missed. 1. This movie is a play off of the Roman form of entertainment. Meaning, the Romans got bored with the mundane, so, they switched to the grotesque. 2. This movie reflects where society and national TV are headed--life and death as reality TV. Let's face it ladies and gentlemen, when we finally tired of shows like "Wheel of Fortune" we moved on to reality TV shows like "Fear Factor and Survivors." My question is, where to next? Will the networks eventually turn to the grotesque for ratings? I think, it's only a matter of time.
