This movie will make you crap your pants.I went to the theater to see this and had a great time.. Woman hyperventilating screaming passing out.. It was awesome the gore and jump scares.. This is the way horror films should be

I still remember sneaking into this movie as a teen. At the time, it was considered a landmark achievement for the horror genre.
It was the first truly successful modern fusion of horror, suspense and sci-fi that anyone had attempted in a long time. More importantly, it was the first modern attempt at that genre that didn’t include a “monster” or obvious standout villain.
Instead the location itself was the threat. Something that is pretty common in haunted house movies but, at the time, wasn’t often seen in sci-fi flicks.

I saw this when it came out in the theaters, and I still remember how disappointed I was. I was hoping for interesting Sci-Fi, but what I saw was a horror movie that tried to use lots of blood and gore to make up for its lack of substance. Think "Hellraiser" in space. No fault of the actors, though: excellent cast.
