This Cut is Awful

This is not the correct cut for this movie. Specifically, the scene with the Christmas trees is gone. The entire Slim Pickins plot line makes no sense. He is introduced driving his pickup and then suddenly on the submarine with nothing in between.
If I could get my $13 back I’d rather just dig my DVD out and watch it.

This is not the original movie, but a heavily edited version. Several scences have been cut and edited from the original movie. Also the original subtitles for the Japanese and German dialong are missing. In order to understand what they're saying you have to turn on the hearing impair close captions.

This film is comedic Americana cinema at its best. Sorely misjudged. The nuance of practically every scene and every character was carefully crafted and set adrift for the sake of fun.

To clarify, there are 2 versions of this movie. One has a very minor racial sub-plot, the other doesn’t. NEITHER version EVER had subtitles. That’s part of the humor. So don’t wait for the subtitled version. There isn’t one, never was.

Caution: some scenes have been deleted at the beginning in the digital version: the moving Christmas trees on the beach and the capture of Willis Hollywood. Now too abrubt a cut from the Japanese on the beach to Willis on the sub.

This movie was seriously underrated when it came out, because people didn't expect, or perhaps want, a comedy from Spielberg. I find it holds up well, and the period setting means the jokes aren't stale.
Unfortunately, a lot of the action, and many of the funniest jokes, are in the sections featuring the very lost Japanese submarine and its uptight German advisor. These scenes are supposed to be subtitled, but they're not. Sadly, I'm going to ask iTunes for a refund.

Great movie but, I'm so disappointed Apple, seriously no subtitles? You put on CC even and the best you can expect to get is;
"Speaking in Japanese" or "Muttering in German".
