Excellent movie. Great plot.

Someone might blame this film has weak story line, yes it might be. However this film is actually based on findings during WW2 that 4 Korean POW at Normandy. It's true.

On par with Saving Private Ryan. Loved the storyline, don't listen to the critics. To the average movie goer this movie is fantastic.

My absolute favorite movie of all time, this movie brought me to tears and brought excitement at times. These critics must just be blind.

This is probably the best movie I have ever watched. Despite minor historical flaws, everything was fantastic about it. The sheer as uncut reality of war laid dry was what grabbed my appreciation, as western movies seem to enjoy sugar-coating and exaggerating scenes to fit the public eye.

Yes, it's a war film, so it's very violent. But for those who have mastered the art of knowing when to not look too closely . . . the storyline is really good and based on 2 separate true stories that were deftly intertwined to show the truly chaotic nature of war, starring two of Asian cinema's top actors: Jang Dong-gun (Korea) and Odagiri Joe (Japan). Side note: it's not just in Korean, the film is actually in Japanese, Korean, a bit of Chinese, Russian and German. I don't know why some people complained so much about the cinematography - I thought it was very well done. Different. But well done all the same. And yeah, be prepared to get teary-eyed, but I wouldn't call it over the top. Just realistic.

First of all, please note that this movie is subtitled - all the language spoken is Japanese, Korean, Russian & German. I enjoyed the movie overall, but what I did not like is the fact that it was still pretty unrealistic in details. This starts with the extensive use of fantasy tanks & equipment in the war scenes and some very unrealistic situations in which e.g. large battleships & destroyers are in sight of the coastline of the Normandy, so that they are dueling with German anti-tank guns. The movie itself has dramatic battle scenes with an obvious high budget, and that is from my point of view strange, because the filmmakers did not even research the proper uniforms (or even haircuts) of that time. Some of the soldiers look like some hippies from the 70s. I know as a German that there were simply no asian soldiers in the German army at that time, and to be honest, that and the unrealistic props spoiled a lot for me. Movies like Saving Private Ryan or Braveheart also bend the history to fit things into a movie, but in thi case it was simply a little bit too much for me. However, if you do not look too close you may enjoy the movie.

The movie was a great motion picture about war, death, hatred, and friendship. Yes the animation could have been better, but that's the only flaw. While watching the movie your not worried about how "real" or "animatedly stunning" the explosions are, you'll get absorbed by the films action, emotion, and gut reaching scenes of death.

What Kang the director has tried to produce is a film that is a clumsy cross between Saving Private Ryan and a maudlin tear-jerker. The storyline is weak, the CGI is amateurish and the realism is nonexistent. Working in a Soviet labor camp did not sustain normal weights, German army officers did not have long 1980's styled hair, crossing over from Soviet to German lines during WW2 did not entail the need to traverse any mountain ranges, a marathon in pre-WW2 Britain was not measured in kilometers and 16 inch shells from a battleship do not just destroy all life within just a 5 yard radius. There was just so much wrong with the film that , for me, it became almost comedic. Furthermore, the loud, blaring quasi-inspirational music just wouldn't stop and became a serious irritant. I was just so glad to see the end of this film.
