Description

Prepare yourself for an unparalleled sensory experience. SAMSARA reunites director Ron Fricke and producer Mark Magidson, whose award winning films BARAKA and CHRONOS were acclaimed for their combining visual and musical artistry. SAMSARA is a Sanskrit word that means “the ever turning wheel of life” and is the point of departure for the filmmakers as they search for the elusive current of interconnection that runs through our lives. Filmed over a period of almost five years in twenty-five countries, SAMSARA transports us to sacred grounds, disaster zones, industrial sites, and natural wonders. By dispensing with dialogue and descriptive text, SAMSARA subverts our expectations of a traditional documentary, instead encouraging our own inner interpretations inspired by images and music that infuses the ancient with the modern.

My first review ever on iTunes. But I just have to say that watching this film on an LG OLED with an Atmos setup, takes it to another level. I’ve watched it before, but never like this. It’s the best advertisement for investing in a Dolby Vision/Dolby Atmos setup.

Samsara is sanskrit for "the ever turning wheel of life". It seems like people go into this film thinking it's going to be like the Planet Earth series or something. It just shows the world to the viewer, the good, the bad, the beautiful and the horrid, as well as some of the ways in which nature gets raped by cultures who don't appreciate the beauty of existence (The chickens get slaughtered, sex dolls, etc). What you make of it is ultimately just what you make of the world. It's not some relativistic, eisogetical piece of modern art. It shows the cycle of death and rebirth as it literally is (which doesnt need words, hence the lack of narration). It couldnt be more obvious in the opening scene. A baby in the womb (life) where it cuts to a mumified man/woman (death), which sets the tone for the rest of the film. It blows my mind how short some people's attention spans are and their lack of ability to stitch the scenes together. Just put down your Transformers: Age of Extinction and take a step back for once, geez.

Beautiful work, shows the world in a new perspective and helps show modern society really as it is today, and what we really take for granted in our world today.
  • The movie is like Apple TV screen saver

The visuals are amazing / stunning / spectacular. That's it. There's no voice / background music / narrating in the movie. It's just a bunch of mind blowing video clips recorded in high resolution slapped together and made into a movie. Goes from one country to an another without any info as to where the video was shot (no on screen text either). I may have loved this movie if I was completely aware of the screensaver format (only visuals, no narration or music) before I started watching this movie. Tomatometer fail. iTunes movie suggestion fail. 99¢ rental - glad I didn't spend more that this Duration watched: 10 minutes (couldn't watch more than that)

This movie has no plot, so can you really call it a movie? It’s more like a music video but wait, music videos have more plot than this. It’s generally undefinable but you can say one thing about it, it’s crap.
