This film is loaded with forced laughs, and amounts to a poor man's version of the classic cartoon. Goodman seemed perfect for the role, and is a fantastic talent in both dramas and comedies, but this lame and actually boring script did not work for him - the rest of the cast. On a positive note, it was the debut of Halle Berry, whose star power was put to much better use in subsequent films.

This is a rather polarizing film adaptation of the eponymous animated series (also available on iTunes) - a series that began its life as TV's first "adult" cartoon and later emerged as a top kids' show in decades of reruns. Although I personally like it, it is rather hard for me to recommend this film, given the mixed reaction from fans of the series. The set of Bedrock is masterfully done, and the film was made under the supervision of series creators Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera (both of whom appear in the film). Although John Goodman was inarguably well-suited as Fred Flintstone, the casting of Rosie O'Donnell as Betty Rubble raised quite a few eyebrows (although she reportedly got the role because she perfected Betty's giggle).
