William Walker, a nineteenth-century American soldier-of-fortune, leads a band of mercenaries in a violent and bloody invasion of Nicaragua with the financial backing of American multimillionaire Cornelius Vanderbilt. He proclaims himself President after a rigged election, but his dictatorial rule quickly devolves as his actions become increasingly manic and delusional.
