Description

Modern society has long believed that women hold up half the sky in terms of equality and progression. So when it comes to the sport of professional cycling, why aren't women receiving half the road?Directed by pro cyclist Kathryn Bertine, Half The Road: explores the world of women's professional cycling, focusing on both the love of sport and the pressing issues of inequality that modern-day female athletes face in male dominated sports. With footage from some of the world's best races to interviews with Olympians, World Champions, rookies, coaches, officials, doctors and family members, Half The Road offers a unique insight to the drive, dedication, and passion it takes for a female cyclist to thrive.Included as well are notable women who have achieved inroads in other sports, such as Kathrine Switzer, the first woman to official register (as "K.V. Switzer") and run the all-male Boston Marathon in 1967; the iconic photo of her being attacked by a race official was listed by Time-Life as among its "100 Photographs that Changed the World."Narrated by Bob Roll and featuring Marianne Vos, Kristin Armstrong, Emma Pooley, Evelyn Stevens, Ina Teutenberg, Amber Neban, Rochelle Gilmore, Connie Carpenter-Phinney, Chrissie Wellington, Kathrine Switzer, Dr. Richard Carmona & more.

My wife and I love cycling and follow bicycle racing, even though it is a little known and much misunderstood sport here in America. That said, for a lot of reasons, cycling - especiallly racing, muct come into the light and out of the Dark Ages. This movie illustrates, all to profoundly, how archaiec the sport of cycling and the UCI governing body are in today's world. The movie focuses on sexism and blatnant disregard for equality in treatment of women. It could have just as easily focued on the lack of safety measures and precautions in professional bicycle racing - but alas, that is left for another documentary.

Objective assessment of women's (and men's) professional cycling. Explores the differences between the treatment of men and women in many sports, not just cycling. Shows us what needs to be done by cycling associations, cyclists themselves, the fan base, sponsors and the media in order to elevate the sport. We are all reminded of the difficulty of the quest for professional achievement in sport and the great sacrifices made by those who achieve. We are exposed to the clean side of a great sport. The disparate treatment which is actually unfairness is presented without rancor. This film teaches about international cycling and the history of the sport.

Superbly executed in-depth documentary about women's cycling and the social challenges holding the sport back from equal opportunities to perform. Thanks to the monumental efforts of Kathryn Bertine, the film crew and over 98,000 supporters who signed a petition sent to Christian Prudhomme elite women cyclist were represented at the Tour de France this year in an event called La Course. It is a big step in the right direction to bring women's professional cycling back to center stage.

Just a couple hours of women whining how life’s not fair. Watch the first few minutes and you’ve seen the entire movie. Boohoo.
