Description

Robert Urich stars as Robert B. Parker’s legendary Beantown gumshoe-with-a-difference, Spenser. Cut from a very different cloth than the usual round of TV detectives, Spenser’s a Renaissance man who isn’t afraid to mix up a gourmet salad or just mix it up. Full-time bookworm and former boxer, the stylish Spenser drives a vintage Mustang that calls out his own sense of time and place – a yearning for a simpler time of ethics and standards, and an appreciation of the best of the past in the present. Keeping Spenser in touch with his complex inner life is his psychologist soulmate, Susan Silverman (Barbara Stock), while the street-savvy Hawk (Avery Brooks) guides Spenser safely through Boston’s labyrinthine underworld. Richard Jaeckel costars as Spenser’s friend on the force, Lt. Quirk. Notable first season guests include William H. Macy, Chuck Connors and Shirley Knight.

One of my favs along with Wings. Used to feed cast and crew at my restaurant when they filmed nearby. Knew it would be a fun day when I’d pull into the parking garage in the am and see the green Mustang. Hope to see season 2 & 3 soon

I didn't really catch this when it originally aired but caught it in syndication years later. Really love this series just wondering when seasons 2 and 3 will be out.

I've loved this show since I was a kid! The only aspect I don't like is the "Susan" stuff. Very annoying. Otherwise GREAT series!

In 1988-1989 I began watching the reruns of this show, and I enoyed the varying style as compared ot other detective shows of the day. Spenser is a sophisticated man, who happens to love the 1965 Mustang fastbck he drives everywhere, even in the insulting salt and snow of the Boston winters (shudder). Looking back on this series, 30+ years later, I am surprised at how up-front it was with many topics, sex and abortion among them. It's still a classic, in my opinion, but doubtful anyone under the age of 45 would agree.
