Description

In this hit spoof on the spy genre, Robert Vaughn and David McCallum star as a team of secret agents (one American, one Russian) battling together against the global crime organization THRUSH. Under the aegis of the United Network Command for Law and Enforcement (U.N.C.L.E.), the dapper, suave Napoleon Solo (Vaughn) and the equally dashing Illya Kuryakin (McCallum) jet to exotic locations, defending the world from evil, chaos and bad taste. Season two finds our spy heroes — and their boss, Alexander Waverly (Leo G. Carroll) — smack in the middle of the swinging sixties. Featuring full-color episodes of tongue-in-cheek banter and imaginative action scenes — such as a choir of eight-year-olds turned into assassins or a pack of radioactive bats programmed to short-circuit the the world — guest stars this season include Angela Lansbury, Martin Landau and Eve Arden.

  • James Bond meets Alice in Wonderland What a concept!

    When I watched this show as a child, I never realized how truly doofus it was. Holy guano Batman, this thing is through the looking glass AND down the rabbit hole! You've got to love “Alexander the Greater” breaking each of the 10 commandments while simultaneously executing his master plan to take over the world -- (he posts a numbered plaque commemorating the site of each infraction). And, as if that did require enough talent, he is all the while dodging an ex-wife who is trying to collect on a divorce settlement. They just don’t make masterminds like they used to. Speaking of masterminds… Not that I'm trying to get into the man's business or anything; but between me, you and the piano player, I doubt Alexander Waverly ever figured out his own hat size at any point in the entire caper... Cosmo oh Cosmo! Myself personal, I didn't know if I was in Oz or Wonderland, but every episode was worth its weight in disbelief. What were they smoking when they wrote this thing? Psychedelic Dude!

  • A true shame

    Maybe it's because I was in the Air Force and know that one "agent" couldn't disable two military guards with one good punch each, not to mention drive a van endlessly on a base without SOMEONE filling it with endless rounds of bullets. BUT that describes the first five-ten minutes of the first episode of season 2, the first in color. Season one displayed one classy American spy who is soon joined by an even classier Russian spy in "affairs" all over the world. Season Two seems to have been written by writers who would soon be working on the tv show, Batman. Lots of "camp" and lots of color...but plots that were (to be kind) watered down or simply dummed down. If you have to buy a season, buy Season One. That season was probably more significantly influenced by the Bond films and their creator Ian Fleming. As much as I loved this show as a teenager, time has not been kind to the last three seasons. Those could have been aired on Saturday mornings at that time.
