Adventurer Todd Carmichael returns for a second season of "Dangerous Grounds," hunting down rare strains of coffee in some of the most dangerous places on the planet. Carmichael started his company, La Colombe Torrefaction in the 1990's with just a few dollars in his pocket. Now his business supplies farm-direct coffee to some of the top chefs and hotels in America. His big name clients will pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to have coffee they can call exclusive and unique. But sourcing coffee that special requires Carmichael to travel to some of the most dangerous locations in the world. This season, he travels to the Amazon jungles of Brazil, mountains of Nepal, conflict zones of Guatemala, cartel-ruled regions of Mexico, and forbidden parts of Thailand and Myanmar to source coffee for big clients including chef Jean Georges Vongerichten, chef Mario Batali, Starr Restaurants, Dean & Deluca, West Elm Stores and Four Seasons Hotels, among others. Carmichael encounters everything from violent drug cartels who have already assassinated one of his key contacts, to a precarious mile-long footbridge suspended high in the Himalayas. Whether sleeping under a truck to avoid being detected by highway robbers or hiring an ex-Soviet fighter pilot to insert him by ultralight deep into the mountains, Carmichael takes calculated risks in order to bring his clients the best coffees in the world. Viewers will hold their breath as Carmichael figures out how to navigate unusual and dangerous scenarios and survive in harsh conditions.
