No redeeming quality...

The show attempts to carry a period flavor like Mad Men, but lacks any redeeming qualities in its characters. For a dramatization, carrying Joe's insecurities so far as to make him a constant foil grew tiresome. Too many plots are contrived and resolved insensibly. Any good writing is hidden behind a ham-handed approach to drama. There are plenty of ways to build intrigue, and moreover to forward character development without such discontinuous storytelling. Try harder. I won't bother with the last three seasons and hope the production staff go on to do more refined works.

Great cast and acting. Story is intriguing and interesting. Very well written. And, a bit of geekiness is the icing on a cake. Basically, MadMen for hackers.

Found out about this show after reading the a16z article in the New Yorker. The period content, parallel narratives, complex characters, and the intense drama of the dawn of the PC evolution makes this one of the best shows ever produced. The whole thing is magnetic!

HALT just gets better and better with every episode. The first 8 are really good, really solid TV, but the last 2 blow it out of the water. The first season tells a satisfying story on its own, but sets up another season perfectly. I really really hope it gets renewed.

This is my favorite show on TV right now. Never have I seen a TV show that is as technologically accurate as Halt and Catch Fire. Not only do the actors tell a very interesting story of the Silicon Prairie during the 80’s but the tech in the show even stands up to the material I studied in my Computer Engineering degree! This is a great show to watch if you have any interest in the history of modern computing or if you have any interest in technology. A definite must-watch TV show!
