Julia (Joely Richardson) learns something is wrong with her unborn child, a fact she tries to hide from Sean (Dylan Walsh). Sean wants to regain a sense of family, but his relationship with his son, Matt (John Hensley), grows more distant. The biological son of Christian (Julian McMahon), Matt is often isolated and moody, and he projects his anger at those who love him the most. Christian is conflicted about his love for Kimber (Kelly Carlson) — a stunning beauty who became an adult video star — and her rejection of him and his ideals of perfection. Bright and caring anesthesiologist Liz (Roma Maffia) is often the only voice of reason.
